Invitation from the mayor, businessmen, Republicans, and citizens to Pres. Cleveland to visit Grand Rapids (Mich.). The letter, on Mayor Edmond B. Dikeman's letterhead, is dated Sept. 27, 1887. The invitation is dated Aug. 13, 1887. Attached to the invitation are lists of names of the mayor's political affiliates, with job or organizational titles, the names of furniture manufacturing companies and firms which generated seven million dollars in capital and employed 9,000 men, and the names of Republicans and other citizens in the community. The cover has a brass plaque with an eagle on top of a heraldic banner inscribed with the title" Grand Rapids Invitation to President Cleveland August 13th, 1887.
